12. PASSAGE DU GOIS – FRANCE
Le Passage du Gois is a world-famous natural wonder. It is a causeway between Beauvoir-sur-Mer and the island of Noirmoutier, in Vendée on the Atlantic coast of France. The causeway is flooded twice a day by the high tide. It is a fascinating example of the ferocious power of nature. The length of the road (4,5 km) makes it all the more dangerous because, if you’re caught in the floods, it can be very difficult to reach dry land before the entire stretch becomes chest-deep in water.
