Going out to a restaurant is usually a great night out. You get to sit back while someone else cooks up a tasty meal, try something new and different, and leave the dirty dishes behind. On top of getting a break from your own kitchen, it’s always nice to spend an evening out of the house.
Behind that enjoyable dining experience, the restaurant staff is working hard for the guests. The chefs are preparing each dish, managers oversee operations, and servers work directly with customers. At Luby’s in Texas, one diligent server was Melina Salazar. With long experience under her belt, she was adept at managing needy patrons’ demands. Some frequent customers were pickier than others. One such regular was Buck, a World War II veteran known as a difficult man to please. But in spite of his reputation, this cranky patron was destined to change Salazar’s life for the better.
